The cable you probably already own a worse version of
Look, I know. A cable review. Bear with me.
The Apple 240W USB-C cable at 2m is one of those things that's easy to dismiss until you've spent six months using a no-name braided thing that runs warm and charges your MacBook Pro at half the speed it should. A mate of mine had exactly that setup. Thought he was being savvy buying a five-quid cable off Amazon. His laptop was basically always half-dead.
This one does 240W properly, which means if you've got a MacBook Pro or a high-wattage charger, it'll actually keep up. The 2m length is the real selling point for day-to-day use. One metre cables are genuinely miserable if your socket isn't right next to where you sit.
Who this is and isn't for
If you're charging an iPhone or AirPods, honestly, don't bother. Any decent USB-C cable will do the job fine and you'd be paying Apple tax for no reason.
But if you're running a MacBook Pro, an iPad Pro, or anything that can actually pull close to 100W or above, the certified 240W rating here does matter. Cheaper cables throttle. This one doesn't.
My one reservation: no discount on this. It's full price, which at around the teens in pounds isn't outrageous for an Apple accessory, but it's not a bargain either. The community heat on HotUKDeals suggests people think it's fair value rather than a steal. I'd agree with that. Solid cable, right length, does what it says. Not exciting, but cables shouldn't have to be.
