What you're actually getting
Eight AA NiMH cells, pre-charged, rated at 2000 mAh, and supposedly good for up to 1000 recharges. That last number is marketing-speak, honestly, but even if you get 300 to 400 real-world cycles out of them, the maths still works in your favour compared to buying disposables every few months.
They're not Eneloop Pros. Let's be clear about that upfront. If you're powering a high-drain flash unit for photography or something that really hammers batteries, spend the extra and get Panasonics. But for remotes, wireless mice, kids' toys, bathroom scales? These are spot on.
The Subscribe & Save bit
The price here is tied to Amazon's S&S scheme, so you're committing to a repeat delivery. That puts some people off, fair enough. You can cancel after the first order though, and at this price per pack it's hard to feel stung. The 856-degree heat on HotUKDeals suggests plenty of people have done exactly that.
I chucked a set in my son's NERF gun a few weeks back. Still going. Previously I was burning through cheap disposable AAs like nobody's business, roughly a pack a month. These have already paid for themselves.
One honest reservation
Self-discharge is slightly higher than premium NiMH brands over long storage. If you're stashing a spare set in a drawer for emergencies, they may be a bit flat when you need them. Keep them topped up in a decent charger (not included, obviously) and it's a non-issue.
For everyday household use, proper good value.
