The nostalgia factor is doing a lot of work here

Let's be honest: half the appeal of this set is purely emotional. You see the DeLorean, the flux capacitor details, maybe a minifig in a puffy orange life vest, and suddenly you're nine years old watching the VHS for the third time that week. LEGO knows this. They're not subtle about it.

That said, as a Speed Champions set it's actually pretty solid. The proportions on the car are tighter than you'd expect at this scale. The gull-wing doors open, which is the detail that matters. A mate of mine built it on a Sunday afternoon with his eleven-year-old and said it took just under an hour, which feels about right for the target audience.

Who this is actually for

If you're a seasoned LEGO collector after something technically impressive, this probably isn't it. Speed Champions sets sit in a specific niche: accessible, quick to build, great on a desk. This one leans harder into the IP than the engineering.

But for a Back to the Future fan, a kid who's just discovered the films, or someone looking for a gift that won't gather dust, it's a decent shout. The piece count keeps it from feeling too lightweight, and the minifigs are charming in that slightly ridiculous LEGO way.

No ongoing discount to shout about here, but the community heat suggests stock moves fast when it dips. Keep an eye on it if you're tempted. The price point makes it a low-risk buy rather than a big commitment.
