The basics, and why the price matters

Butterkist has been around forever. It's not a trendy brand, it's not trying to be artisan, and honestly that's fine. Three bags of microwave popcorn for under a pound twenty-five with a voucher, or closer to 99p on Subscribe and Save, is proper cheap for a snack that takes two minutes to make.

Each bag is 60g, which is a decent single-serving size. Not massive, but enough that you don't feel short-changed.

What it actually tastes like

I had a bag of this on a Tuesday night, nothing special, just one of those evenings where you want something to crunch through while watching telly. The sweet and salted thing works. It's not as sickly as some flavours, and the salt keeps it honest. The texture comes out well from the microwave, mostly fluffy with the odd unpopped kernel rattling around at the bottom, which is just popcorn life, isn't it.

Honestly, it's not going to replace a really good cinema-style popcorn. But it's not trying to.

Who should bother

This is a solid buy if you go through popcorn regularly as a snack, or if you've got kids who eat it after school. Subscribe and Save makes sense here because it's the kind of thing you'll always use up.

If you only occasionally fancy popcorn, probably not worth setting up a subscription for three small bags. And if you're a proper popcorn snob who pops their own kernels with coconut oil, this probably isn't your thing. But for everyone else, it's a spot-on little deal.
